Outstanding advantages of Gel-Kayano 31
4D GUIDANCE SYSTEM™ stabilization system
The midsole in the middle (between the heel and the forefoot) has a lateral wall and an outer groove that helps stabilize the foot strike. For example, “the channel under the heel slopes from the medial (inner) side to the lateral (outer) side… the inner midsole (arch side) has a solid sidewall, whereas the outer midsole has a groove running down its side.” This helps when you step down, if your foot tends to over-pronate, the inner arch will have a stronger wall and the outer groove will have a softer groove, thereby “supporting” the foot’s movement for more stability.
GEL / PureGEL™ bar and mid-sole
- The heel is highlighted with “PureGEL™” technology in the heel strike area, which helps “damp” the landing. For example: “The mid-sole still boasts PureGEL in the rearfoot …”
- The mid-sole uses FF BLAST™ PLUS ECO foam (according to product specifications) to create a soft yet firm feel.
- Based on the cut-away image, you can see the foam and the internal structure: thicker cushioning at the heel (~40mm) and at the forefoot (~30mm) with a drop of about 10mm.
- The use of HYBRID ASICSGRIP™ (ASICSGRIP + AHARPLUS) rubber provides increased traction, especially on wet or slippery surfaces.
- The image of the soleplate shows a different colored rubber band and groove area, indicating a design aimed at increasing friction and distributing force more evenly when landing and moving. The example image shows the distinct areas of the outer rubber (different color tone).
